The Members Plus Support
Friday 19th March Tickets £5adv/6 door
The Members were one of the wittiest and most imaginative guitar bands to emerge in the aftermath of the 1977 punk explosion. Having got together in the sleepy suburbs of Bagshot and Camberley, they were too far removed from the new wave's fashionable London cliques to take their place alongside such pioneers as The Clash and the Sex Pistols.
When they did break through, with Sound Of The Suburbs in 1979, they did so not by singing about high-rise living, dole queues and anarchy, but with a song that wryly reflected their somewhat more mundane suburban roots.
This May the band release a definitive best of album that traces the group's history from early, punk-inspired releases on the independent Beggars Banquet and Stiff labels through to their chart heyday with Virgin and beyond. It spans six years and six different labels, and features the original (and best) version of Sound Of The Suburbs - a punk classic now available for the first time in 25 years.
The Members are supported by The Evidents and The Razzle
The Longfellows / Jon Byrne & The Victims / Flight Brigade Plus Club Crawdaddy in the main bar from 9.30pm
Saturday 20th March Tickets £5 adv/ £6 door
Armed with a clutch of tunes that recall the spikey pop of the jam,the streets verbal poetry and a whisper of the beatles, The Longfellows have a developed an impressively large following in London, especially for an unsigned band. They remind us of the early Camden days of Madness, and we highly recommend them.
Jon Byrne is an artist of the zeitgeist & his music tells it how it is, pulling no punches on delivery. Influenced by film, comedy & life his lyrics reflect this with 'finger on the trigger' observational social commentary wrapped in black humour & songs of tender truth that pull at the heartstrings
Formed in 2009, Flight Brigade deliver wickedly memorable songs that burst with heart-felt energy. Their sound revolves around the song-writing talents of singer Oliver Baines. Growing up in Ohio and New York, Baines later moved to Southeast England where he met violinist Dorry Hughes and her sister Miriam (accordion, melodica and glockenspiel). The trio teamed up with musician friends from college, Brigitte Beraha (piano & backing vocals), Thomas Pink (guitar), Neil Blandford (drums) and Tom Clay (bass), to form the seven piece line-up. Citing inspiration from Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, Fairport Convention and James Taylor, their debut album, 'Planes Trains and Motor vehicles', is highly melodic and full of uplifting tunes alongside moments of powerful poignancy.
New to the main bar of The Half Moon - Club Crawdaddy- DJ Stevie will be spinning 50's rock'n'roll, rhythm'n'blues, jump'n'jive, rockabilly, psychobilly, cult film sound tracks and much more. Its free to get in, kicks off at 9.30pm and runs til 1pm
Ducks Deluxe
Sunday 21st March Tickets £8adv/ £10 door
When ex-Help Yourself members Sean Tyla and Ken Whaley joined up with Martin Belmont in Summer 1972, the band that would become Ducks Deluxe was born. Playing bare bones Americana rock in it's most raw and violent form, The Ducks spent much of 1973 turning the burgeoning pub-rock scene on it's head with the sheer energy of their performance. Achieving album success and critical acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic, Ducks Deluxe called it a day in the Summer of 1975, although the members went on to have successful individual careers. The Motors, The Tyla Gang, Graham Parker & The Rumour and Help Yourself all kept the ex-Ducks in the public eye. The band reformed to celebrate the 35th anniversary of their original formation, playing a gig in the 100 Club in 2007. Since then they have continued to perform regularly, including a headline slot at the PopXiria festival in Spain and a Swedish tour in the Spring of 2009. Now they've made their way to The Halfmoon. Their music is the kind that was just made for drinking and dancing - come down and see how pub-rock should be played.
Jefferson Ross Plus Sandy Newman and The Band (Marmalade)
Tuesday 23rd March Tickets £5
Inspired by the people who are devoted to quality and putting in the love, experience and special stuff that sets them apart from the pack, Jefferson, aspiring to inspire has created an album in Azalea that says I'm a southern boy who loves to travel and experience all the world has to offer, but I'm home where the dogwoods and azaleas bloom.
By 16 Jefferson was touring with various Gospel acts. It was during this time he landed a band position with Jimmy Swaggart. He was told, "You're hired. Get a passport. We're leaving for Australia next week." Although gaining invaluable experience as a stage musician, Jefferson identified himself as a songwriter. He'd been writing songs for his church band so it seemed fitting when Jimmy Swaggart cut "Unworthy of The Blood". "When I found out that people actually make money writing songs, that was it for me!"
Inspired by his Grandaddy's 8 tracks of Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard, and his own rootsy musical collection, Jefferson set his sights on Music City. He admits the genre has changed quite a bit since he moved to Nashville but its hard not to love an "excellent lyric married to an organic melody."
Jeff and his Martin D-18 spent the early part of the 90's living in Berlin, Germany. "The wall had just come down and the East and West were in a honeymoon period. I have a piece of The Wall I chiseled off myself and it sits on my bookshelf at home." A few years later he toured with Sam and Annie Tate, Mark Ortmann (of the Bottle Rockets), and Gene Rabbai through Czechoslovakia as Foot Hill Train.
After a cut on Bryan White's Between Now and Forever album, (On Any Given Night), Jefferson headed out on a weekend gig with Grand Ole Opry member Terri Clark that lasted 10 years and gave him the opportunity to share the stage with Reba, George Strait, Brooks and Dunn, and Toby Keith.
Jefferson came off the road in 2005 to commit to writing full time and give voice to all these stories. Within a few months he landed a staff writing contract with Curb Publishing and 300 songs later is debuting his first studio album, Azalea.
Jefferson is supported by Sandy Newman. Sandy is a long serving singer/front man and lead guitarist of the internationally acclaimed band 'Marmalade' whose successes include Reflections of my Life, Rainbow, Loving Things, Cousin Norman, Radancer, Falling Apart At The Seams and the Lennon/macCartney title..Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da. amongst others. Sandy started working on a solo album project back in January 2009. The album 'Golden Years', marries brand new self-penned songs alongside a few classic personal favourites such as, 'Wichita Lineman' and 'Homeward Bound'.
